{"id":156,"date":"2007-10-17T02:10:01","date_gmt":"2007-10-16T23:10:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.debonos.gr\/?p=156"},"modified":"2025-02-07T14:26:02","modified_gmt":"2025-02-07T12:26:02","slug":"far-west-tribal-dances","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.debonos.gr\/en\/far-west-tribal-dances\/","title":{"rendered":"FAR WEST -Tribal Dances"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Sotiris Debonos was for many years under the persistency to produce some music with material motivated by the Ionian Musical School, which has no relation to the Eastern musical modes but follows purely the Western modes and aesthetics&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">As he was listening, a certain morning, to the record \u201cCodona .2\u201d by Don Cherry, Collin Walcott and Nana Vasconcelos he had the idea of making a set of dances referring to a tribe, indefinable in space and time &#8211; thus came the subheading \u201ctribal dances\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">The initial idea was the work to be purely acoustic; however, \u00a0Debonos decided together with the co-producer Antonis Livieratos to use\u00a0Jazz loops\u00a0in place of bass and percussion, so the \u00a0the material has an electronic direction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">The material took the title \u201cFARWEST\u201d, with reference to their common place of origin (Cephalonia \u2013\u00a0Ionian Islands), which happens to be the utmost western place of Greece, in both the geographical and the cultural terms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Samples were used from mandolins recorded live in local taverns and from\u00a0brass bands\u00a0and choirs recorded in the streets, combined with processed loops.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Sotiris Debonos plays mandolin, synths and\u00a0electric guitar\u00a0and there is a contribution by Savinna Yannatou (vocalist of the well known group \u201cPrimavera in Salonico\u201d) in the vocals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">The CD comprises 11 tracks, each having a dual title, for example the title \u201cDe Bossett Bridge \u2013 A Farewell Dance\u201d \u2013track 11\u2013 refers to an existing bridge at Farwest (Argostoli city in Cephalonia island) and also to the fact that this bridge is the usual passage of the dead when convoyed to their last rest&#8230;..<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Such factual information, according to Sotiris Debonos, has no special interest to the listener, who is invited to listen to the CD at\u00a0high volume\u00a0under the illusion that it is a musicological recording of the dances of an undefined animistic tribe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">\u00a0<h3 class=\"crp-list-title\">Related Posts<\/h3><div class=\"crp-list\"><div class=\"crp-list-item crp-list-item-image-left crp-list-item-has-image\"><div class=\"crp-list-item-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.debonos.gr\/farwest-press\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\" style=\"max-width: 80px;
